PLANNING A WEDDING- WHAT TO DIY AND WHAT NOT TO
I want to start off by saying this is 100% my opinion and girl if you want to DIY your entire wedding you go for it!! For me, I had to burst my little DIY loving bubble and realize that on my big day… I just COULDN’T do everything myself and enjoy the day as a whole. So I wrote this list of DIY DO’S and DON’TS for your big day!
DIY centerpieces and bouquets ahead of time IF you are not using real flowers.
Trying to be a florist on the morning of your wedding, flowers will die, it will be a disaster just don’t do it and save yourself the headache. Do I know people who have done this successfully? YES but would they do it again? NOPE. Do yourself a favor and hire a florist, or hire a family member who knows what the heck your vision is and what to do with flowers!!
Gifts for your parents or bridesmaids or groom or whoever you want to give a gift to on your wedding day can all be made ahead of time! Personally I feel as if DIY gifts (or even with the help of Etsy) mean more than store bought! So get your DIY on and do it up girl!!
By this, I mean seriously… do not try to decorate your venue the morning of. If you make things ahead of time that is fine, but do not try to set it up yourself. You will NOT have time to focus on what you need to be focusing on… AKA GETTING MARRIED!! Enjoy your morning, assign a family member or friend that’s not in your wedding party to decorate for you. Or even better, just spend the bit of money to have it done right by a professional. You will thank me later, your welcome.
I know… your saying WHAT?! Trust me, when I saw the price of bands/DJ’s I seriously thought to myself damn… I could put on a speaker and Spotify and call it a day. NO please NO! It won’t work out the way you are thinking in your head. Splurge for that DJ or Band, it will be something you remember forever.
Think small and you will save $$ I doubled my favor with my seating arrangement (I’ll show the pic below) killed two birds with one stone!!
Make your own seating chart, whether it be a sign or writing their table numbers on shells or champagne bottles or however you want to do it!
If your wedding venue doesn’t give you a day of coordinator to keep track of the timing of the day you need to hire one or appoint someone responsible to have that job!! TRUST ME. The day will go by in a whirlwind and you will have no idea where you are and what time it is half the time so please let someone else think about timing of things ok?!
Coming from a wife of 6 months… these tips are still fresh in my mind. Your wedding day will be special no matter what. Don’t get so hung up on the little things and remember what the day is all about.
